Boletim 163 – Comitê Popular em Defesa de Lula e da Democracia

1. Integrantes de movimentos sociais iniciaram nesta terça-feira (31) uma greve de fome, por tempo indeterminado, pela libertação do ex-presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Eles protocolaram no Supremo Tribunal Federal um manifesto no qual afirmam que “o Poder Judiciário viola a Constituição e impede o povo de escolher pelo voto, soberanamente, o seu presidente e o futuro do País”, numa referência à prisão política de Lula. 2. Após visita ao ex-presidente Lula nesta terça-feira (31), Fernando Haddad, coordenador do plano de governo do PT, afirmou que o governo Michel Temer deveria suspender imediatamente a tramitação de medidas estruturais para que o próximo presidente possa debatê-las com a população. 3. Em comunicado intitulado “Em defesa da Democracia no Brasil”, o Conselho Executivo da AFL-CIO – a maior confederação sindical dos Estados Unidos – defendeu a libertação imediata de Lula. No documento, os sindicalistas apelam ao Judiciário brasileiro para reverter a farsa judicial promovida pelo juiz Sérgio Moro e também para proteger os direitos fundamentais de Lula ao devido processo legal e a um julgamento justo e com obediência à Constituição do País, que não permite a prisão de alguém até o julgamento em todas as instâncias. 4. Levantamento feito pela AJA Solutions revela que o engajamento do ex-presidente Lula no Facebook e nas redes sociais como um todo vem crescendo desde maio. O total de curtidas, reações, compartilhamentos e comentários em postagens com a página oficial de Lula (www.fb.com/lula) fechou acima da marca dos 15 milhões em julho – crescimento de 12% em relação a maio passado. 5. O ato de “boa tarde” ao ex-presidente Lula foi comandado por José Henrique Artigas, professor da Universidade Federal da Paraíba. Depois da saudação a Lula, Adriana Prestes leu o poema “Vigília em Prosa e Verso”, escrito a muitas mãos pelo Coletivo Cultural do MST. O poema refere-se aos moradores vizinhos: “Aos que abriram suas portas e coração / Aos que nos deram água e pão / Gratidão! / Ganhamos novos irmãos”.

6. Na tarde desta terça-feira (31) aconteceu também mais uma sessão do Cine Lula, com a exibição do filme “Olga” na tenda da Vigília. Dirigido por Jayme Monjardim, o filme conta a história de Olga Benário, militante comunista alemã que viveu no Brasil, onde se apaixonou por Luiz Carlos Prestes. Deportada, morreu nas mãos dos nazistas.

7. A Vigília Lula Livre plantou desde sábado (28) mais de 100 árvores no bairro Santa Cândida, onde está localizada a sede Superintendência da Polícia Federal em que Lula está há 115 dias como preso político. A ação da Brigada de Trabalho Solidário, entre outras que estão sendo desenvolvidas, tem como objetivo agradecer moradores da região pela solidariedade e também conscientizar aqueles contrários à resistência democrática sobre o caráter pacífico do movimento pela libertação de Lula.

8. Lula foi “a pessoa que mais investiu na inclusão social dos menos favorecidos aqui do Brasil”, afirmou a professora Sílvia Ester Orrú, da Universidade de Brasília (UnB), ao receber o III Prêmio Internacional de Ensaio em Educação e Aprendizagem, entregue em Paris, na França. Ela dedicou o prêmio a Lula e disse que enviará ao ex-presidente a obra “O Re-inventar da Inclusão: os desafios da diferença no processo de ensinar e aprender”, que lhe rendeu a premiação. 1. On this Tuesday, July 31, a group of social movement leaders began a hunger strike which will continue for an indeterminate amount of time, in demand for the release of ex-President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. They filed a manifesto in the Supreme Court in which they affirm that “Judicial branch of government is violating the Constitution by impeding the people to sovereignly decide, by vote, on their president and the future of their country,” in a reference to Lula’s political imprisonment. 2. After visiting ex-President Lula on this Tuesday, July 31, Fernando Haddad, coordinator of the PT Government Plan, confirmed that the Michel Temer government should immediately suspend the processing of structural adjustments so that the next president can debate them with the population. He said that he hopes that this next president will be Lula, with all of the legitimacy of the popular vote to deliver the demands of society. 3. In a communique called, “In Defense of Democracy in Brazil”, the Executive directorship of the AFL-CIO – the largest union confederation in the United States – defended the immediate release of Lula. In the document, the union leaders appeal to the Brazilian judiciary to undo the judicial farce promoted by judge Sergio Moro and also to protect Lula’s fundamental rights to due process and a fair trail in accordance with the Brazilian Constitution, which does not allow anyone to be imprisoned until their appeals processes have been exhausted. 4. A study made by AJA Solutions reveals that the engagement with ex-President Lula on Facebook and in the social media has been steadily increasing since May. The total number of likes, reactions, shares and comments on posts on Lula’s official page (www.fb.com/lula) finished at over 15 million for July – a 12% increase in relation to the previous month. 5. The ‘good afternoon’ shout to ex-President Lula today was led by Professor José Henrique Artigas, from the Universidade Federal da Paraiba. After the greeting to Lula, Adriana Prestes read the poem, “Vigil in Prose and Verse,” which was written collectively by the MST Cultural Collective. The poem refers to the Vigil’s neighbors: “Those who opened their doors and their hearts/Those who gave us water and bread/Thankfulness!/We’ve gained new brothers”.

6. This afternoon, on July 31st, another session of Lula Cinema was held, with a showing of the movie “Olga” in the Vigil tent. Directed by Jayme Monjardim, the film tells the story of Olga Benário, a German communist activist who lived in Brazil, where she fell in love with Luiz Carlos Prestes. Deported, she was killed by the Nazis.

7. This Saturday, July 28th, the Lula Livre Vigil planted over 100 trees in the Santa Cândida neighborhood, where the Federal Police headquarters building where Lula has been held for 115 days as a political prisoner is located. The action was made by the Solidarity Work Brigade and is one of several which they are developing, with the goal of thanking neighborhood residents for their solidarity and raising consciousness of those who are against the democratic resistance on the pacific character of the movement to free Lula. 8. Lula was “the person who invested the most in social inclusion for the less privileged here in Brazil,” said professor Sílvia Ester Orrú, from the University of Brasilia, as she received the III International Essay Prize for Education and Learning, in Paris, France. She dedicated the prize to Lula and said that she will send him a copy of her work, “In reinventing inclusion: the challenges of difference in the process of teaching and learning,” which won the prize.
